Mitchell Baker, Chairman de Mozilla Foundation, vient de publier un billet sur son blog qui me paraît important, Mozilla, Firefox and Google Chrome . A ce titre, j'ai décidé de le traduire. On dénote une différence de style avec le billet de John Lilly . Ici, Mitchell est beaucoup plus politique ! N'hésitez pas à laisser un commentaire si vous avez des suggestions pour améliorer cette traduction. Merci ! Mozilla existe pour construire des parties d'Internet où le bénéfice de chaque individu et de la société sont ce qui importent. Nous construisons Firefox de façon explicite en vue d'approcher cet objectif. Mozilla est probablement le seul à pouvoir faire une chose pareille. En tant qu'organisation à but non lucratif nous sommes structurés, d'un point de vue légal et opérationnel, pour ceci, et uniquement ceci. Nous construisons Firefox en tant que premier pas - un pas essentiel ! - dans cette direction. Mais Firefox n'est pas l'objectif final. L'objectif final, c'est de créer un Internet où chacun de nous peut participer, où chacun de nous peut construire, où l'on peut prendre le pouvoir, agir, prendre des décisions. Chacun de nous va vivre dans un monde où notre identité et nos actions en ligne sont très importante et ce de plus en plus. Chacun de nous devrait être capable de participer à la création de ceci. Participer, certes, mais de la façon qui nous importe, pas seulement de la façon qu'on veut bien nous laisser. Mozilla a reconnu il y a bien longtemps qu'un navigateur indépendant focalisé sur le l'intérêt public était une pièce essentielle nécessaire à la construction d'un Internet en bonne santé. Nombreux sont ceux qui ont pensé que c'était fou : le navigateur était souvent considéré comme un élément de Windows qui n'avait pas d'importance particulière. Aujourd'hui, nous savons que ça n'était pas vrai. Près de 200 millions d'utilisateurs ont exprimé leur opinion en adoptant Firefox. Cela démontre à quel point le navigateur est important. Hier, Google a annoncé qu'il allait lancer son propre navigateur, ce qui valide encore que cet outil appelé navigateur est fondamental. Notre première grande bataille, celle de la pertinence de notre produit et son acceptation, a été gagnée. Nous construisons Firefox via un processus de développement ouvert. Chez Mozilla, les gens gagnent leur galons, leur capacité à prendre des décision et le respect qu'il leur est dû en démontrant leurs capacités. Ceci permet à des individus de devenir des participants à part entière, égaux, avec l'autorité et la responsabilité de construire un Internet meilleur. Le processus de développement de Firefox démontre - imparfaitement, c'est sûr -le type d'Internet que nous voulons construire. Firefox est le premier pas dans la construction de cet Internet. C'est la preuve tangible qu'on peut construire avec de telles méthodes in produit que des centaines de millions de personnes apprécient. Firefox est un excellent logiciel. Il se doit de l'être. Il est clair que nous devons continuer à construire d'excellents logiciels tout en menant la danse dans un environnement concurrentiel. Mozilla a créé cet environnement concurrentiel à travers le succès de Firefox, et je suis toute aussi confiante que John quant au futur de Mozilla. Nous avons déjà plein de choses prêtes pour la sortie de notre prochaine version, la 3.1, et il y en a bien d'autres à venir. Performance. Stabilité. Sécurité. Facilité d'utilisation. Fonctionnalités. la période est bonne pour Firefox et pour les navigateurs en général. Nous allons continuer à nous battre dans le monde du navigateur, et nous continuerons à y exceller. Nous allons continuer à produire un logiciel que les gens choisissent, dans lequel ils ont confiance, parce qu'ils comprennent qu'il leur appartient. Nous allons continuer cela dans le cadre de notre mission, qui est de construire un Internet où la valeur pour les individus, les citoyens et la société est ce qu'il y a de plus important. La concurrence n'est que rarement confortable, mais elle force chacun de nous à donner ce qu'il a de meilleur. Firefox 3 est un logiciel extraordinaire et il reste beaucoup à venir. Le Père Noël m'a gâté cette année.
C'est Noël avant l'heure, en fait c'est Noël tout le temps.
Dans le bon sens du terme hein. Je vous entend déjà. D'ici. Et pourtant je suis loin.
Le Père Noël m'a offert le plus beau des cadeaux.
Il m'a offert un instant précieux. Ne vous moquez pas c'est très rare. Du genre que l'on tient dans la main, sans oser bouger de peur qu'il ne s'envole, de peur qu'il tombe. Qu'on ose à peine ciller de peur qu'il s'évapore pour ne plus rien laisser de lui-même qu'une brume vaporeuse à diffusion instantanée.

I cant believe how long it's been since my last post. The shop has been keeping me busy as usual. The girls are keeping the "mum's taxi" service very busy. Ooohhh too be a teenager again. On second thoughts maybe not. My baby girl is growing up so fast. yeah i know, she is 13 and taller than me, I know that isn't hard. Being 5" short is a real joke with the girls now, they introduce me to their friends then add "isn't she short", they say I'm cute because of how short i am. I will have to show you all a photo of the girls and I so you know what i mean. I will get back to you on that one. But in the mean time, here is a layout I'd like to share.
I hope your all enjoying the school holidays. Week one is always the easiest. I dread week two when the kids get so bored that you and they cant wait to go back to school. Fingers crossed that the weather is as beautiful as today for the next 2 weeks.

RESF 25 s'élève contre la censure du livre du lauréat du concours littéraire « Litteratura Jeunesse » organisé par le Conseil Général du Doubs. Intitulé « Demain, je reviendrai » , l'ouvrage traite du parcours et de la souffrance d'un immigrant clandestin. Il a été choisi à l'unanimité par le jury. Sa publication est refusée au motif ahurissant dans un pays démocratique qu'il serait « trop engagé » et qu'il pourrait déplaire à la Préfecture et nuire aux négociations en cours avec elle ! Tout en considérant que cette affaire en dit long sur le climat politique détestable qui règne actuellement en France s'agissant d'immigration, RESF estime que le Président du Conseil Général du Doubs s'honorerait en reconsidérant sa décision et en publiant ce livre, sans craindre des représailles qui seraient scandaleuses. C'est la liberté d'expression et de création qui est en jeu. J'ai participé cette année au concours littéraire "Litteratura Jeunesse" organisé par le conseil général du Doubs. Comme vous le savez déjà peut-être, ce concours est national et aussi ouvert aux frontières pour les pays limitrophes francophones. Le lauréat se voit publié par le conseil général et participe au salon du livre "Les mots doubs" en septembre. Le jury composé de professionnels du livre et de membres du conseil général m'a désignée lauréate en cette année 2008 à ce concours. Or, le président du conseil général a refusé que mon manuscrit soit publié malgré le vote. C'est la 1ère fois que le lauréat n'est pas publié depuis 5 ans que le concours existe ! Mon ouvrage s'intitule "Demain, je reviendrai" et raconte le parcours et la souffrance d'un immigrant clandestin, reconduit à la frontière en fin d'ouvrage. Il raconte une réalité sociale de souffrance qui existe notamment tout près de chez nous puisqu'il en est très question en ce moment à Besançon et Montbéliard. Il a été écrit pour raconter ce fait d'actualité à des enfants de 12 ans, mon objectif étant que l'actualité, aussi terrible qu'elle soit, soit accessible dès le plus jeune âge. Les raisons de cette non publication : « votre ouvrage est trop engagé » , « votre ouvrage pourrait nuire aux négociations entamées actuellement entre les élus locaux et la préfecture pour ne pas renvoyer certaines familles habitant actuellement à Besançon et Montbéliard qui sont menacées d'expulsion » . « Le conseil général est une institution qui ne peut en aucun cas prendre parti, elle se doit de rester neutre et la publication d'un tel ouvrage pourrait provoquer une grande polémique qui irait à l'encontre de ces familles » . Les membres du jury ne comprennent pas... J'essaie de comprendre les motivations de cette non publication mais l'ampleur de leurs propos m'échappe : de quoi les élus ont-ils peur exactement ? D'une répression de qui ? D'une réaction négative de qui ? En quoi un ouvrage destiné aux enfants peut-il aller à l'encontre de négociations ? Outre le fait que je sois déçue par la non publication de mon ouvrage alors que je suis la lauréate, je suis surtout effrayée par une telle réaction : en effet ne peut-on plus à l'heure actuelle publier un ouvrage (qui ne fait que relater une vérité sans prendre en aucun cas position) destiné à des enfants sans avoir peur de représailles ? L'histoire que j'ai écrite a eu vote unanime des membres du jury professionnels du livre, je pense qu'il mérite donc certainement d'être publié. Suite à cette histoire, ma volonté de le publier est d'autant plus forte. Je voudrais qu'il soit publié pour imposer le respect et la liberté de l'expression lorsqu'il s'agit de la défense des droits de l'Homme et de l'enfant. Je souhaite que mon livre soit publié et que toutes les recettes de la vente soient destinées à une ONG qui défend ces droits. J'attends une réponse mi septembre des éditions Syros en collaboration avec Amnesty International.
